The Overall Goals of the Improvement of the Criminal Justice System
The Improvement of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) programme is aimed at developing the South African Criminal Justice System (CJS) into an effective, co-ordinated and efficient justice system that dispenses swift justice and acts as an effective deterrent to crime.
The Primary Objectives of the Improvement of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) Work Group
The objectives of the CJS Work Group are to do the following:
- Improve the legitimacy of and public confidence in the CJS;
- Eliminate key weaknesses and blockages in the CJS through short- and medium- term interventions;
- Sustain the efficiency and effectiveness of the CJS through the improved co-ordination and management of the system as a whole,
- Modernise the entire system of the CJS through sustainable long-term interventions.
BACSA Commitment Statement to the Work of the CJS Review
BACSA remains committed to supporting the work of the CJS Review such that it progressively begins to rebuild public confidence in the performance of the Criminal Justice System. An effective and efficient Criminal Justice System which works as it should will ultimately deter crime at the same time that it is capacitated to meet demand.
