Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA) strongly supports the implementation requirements of the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act (RICA) which comes into effect today.
“The implementation of the provisions of the RICA has been in the pipeline for a long time,” says Simi Pillay-van Graan, BACSA National Project for the Cellphone Theft Prevention Project.

BACSA today on the Kroonstad Military Base conducted in conjunction with key stakeholders a live vehicle explosion to test the resilience of the Microdot technology.
Fouché Burgers, Project Manager of BACSA, had the following to say after the vehicle explosion, “We are very pleased that microdots from all four suppliers here today were found on the exploded vehicle, this proves without a doubt the resilience of the microdot technology as an important tool in the fight against crime”.

The South African Insurance Association (SAIA), a long-time contributor to Business Against Crime South Africa, has today donated over R 1.5 million to BACSA to improve road safety and combat the trio crimes. This is the organisation's 8th year of support. CEO of BACSA, Siphiwe Nzimande accepted this contribution as one which would assist the organisation and partners to move a few steps closer to the vision of a crime-free, safe and prosperous South Africa.

BACSA supported the Department of Safety and Security and Minister Nathi Mthethwa to host a Crime Summit at Gallagher Estate, Johannesburg, at the beginning of December 2008. The purpose of the summit was to review existing strategies in addressing crime and, in particular, priority crimes and to renew the commitment of all role-players and civil society in the fight against crime.
Mark Lamberti, Chairperson of BACSA, was a keynote speaker at the summit (1-2 December 2008).
