In advance of national police day today 27 January 2010, BACSA in conjunction with a number of business partners and the Gauteng SAPS and the Provincial Commissioner Perumal Naidoo, held a formal function to award outstanding service in the SAPS in Midrand, last week Friday.
At the ceremony various officials were awarded certificates of recognition and prizes for the following categories of outstanding service:
- The member with the largest number of life imprisonment sentences;
- The member with the largest number of 30 year imprisonment sentences;
- The member with the largest number of 15 year imprisonment sentences;
- The Best Performer in Commercial Crime;
- The Best Performer in Organised Crime;
- The Best Performer in General Detectives;
- The Best individual Performer in Trio Task teams;
- The Best Syndicated Arrest;
- The Best Rapid Response Team;
- The Best Trio Task team, as well as associated recognition and prizes for first through to 5th place in the same category.
At the award ceremony held at the Bytes Technology Centre, Commissioner Taioe had the following to say on the partnership between business and the SAPS: “The police acknowledge the requirement of assistance from business and appreciate the efforts of business. We are especially grateful for the role that Business Against Crime South Africa plays in being a facilitator between organised business and the SAPS.
Director Mapiyane said, “We need to work together if we intend to bring down crime and sustain the reduction in serious crimes.
Lorinda Nel, BACSA Project Manager, reaffirmed that “Business will remain committed in supporting the police wherever necessary”. In advance of national Police day, the recognition that SAPS officials received was well deserved for their sterling service delivery and dedication at the frontlines of the war on crime.
Business partners who sponsored the prizes for top-performing SAPS officials in Gauteng province included Fleetcall in association with Altech, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Guvon, the Sandton Holiday Inn, DataDot, Tsohle-Unicode, the SA Jewellery Council, G4S, SBV, Protea Coin and Business Against Crime SA.
Business Against Crime South Africa takes this opportunity on national Police Day to recognise the performance of SAPS officials across the country who daily place their lives on the line for the general public. The renewed vigour and commitment shown by the SAPS leadership is visibly helping to turn the tide on crime.
We look forward to a year which will hopefully be characterised by sustained crime reduction through the joint efforts of the SAPS and law enforcement agencies, the support of business and community members doing their part to report crimes; become involved in local anti-crime structures; not buy stolen goods and comply with the requirements of the law.
On the occasion of national Police day, we say thank you and keep up the good work! Your commitment at the frontlines of the fight against crime is remembered today with deep appreciation.
